There have been no new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in Victoria over the last 24 hours. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) said on Twitter that there had been one new internationally acquired case in hotel quarantine over the same period.

The DHSS said in a statement that 18,660 test results had been received overnight.

In Greater Brisbane, the three-day lockdown restrictions are to be lifted at 6pm tonight after new cases were reported in the state.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palazczuk said some resrictions are to remain in place in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay and Redlands were masks will continue to be worn in most places as a precaution for the next 10 days.

Gatherings are restricted to 20 people in homes and public spaces. Weddings and funerals will be allowed up 100 people.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the new strain of the COVID-19 virus which first surfaced in Britain five weeks ago and has spread to 45 countries was likely to become the new dominant strain of the virus globally.

It is a view supported by Prime Minister Scott Morrison who said: “This strain is likely to be come (the) more dominant strain of the virus globally.”
