Greek Australian dream team Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis triumphed in their first Round Men’s doubles match against South Africa’s Lloyd Harris and Austria’s Julian Knowle on Saturday.

The pair managed a straight-sets win, 6-2 6-4 progressing into the second round of the Australian Open doubles.

And while the match was spectacular, it was their press conference that made more headlines this time.

In a rather entertaining post-match presser, Kokkinakis was evidently caught off guard when Kyrgios put him on the spot with a cheeky ‘girls’ comment.

The interchange that made Kokkinakis blush started when the duo were asked about their communication in between points, whether it was about tactics or mainly banter.

“Tactical, maybe one per cent?,” Kokkinakis went first with Kyrgios stating “I don’t know, there was actually a bit of talk out there, tactical-wise.”

And the back and forth continued:

Kokkinakis: “All right, maybe a little bit, but it was definitely more rubbish.”

Kyrgios: “Well I’m a taken man, so he’s talking to me about girls most of the time.”

Kokkinakis: “He’s just thrown me under the bus right here. But that’s not true, we were just having fun.”

Giggles continued when a reporter asked Kokkinakis is anything had changed for him since his match with Tsitsipas with Kyrgios jumping in to reply “His direct messages”.

“This guy [Kyrgios], every time!,” Kokkinakis exclaimed.

The Greek Aussie duo were facing Dutch Wesley Koolhof and Lukasz Kubot on Sunday afternoon in their second round of men’s doubles.
