When the North Wind (Boreas) really takes control in Greece in winter look out. The “Devouring One” as the Ancient Greek god of the north wind was known, proved particularly potent in the company of the Medea weather front this week.

Greece experienced extreme cold conditions that will long be remembered not only for the extreme winter weather for the unusual winter landscape that resulted. While the Parthenon and the rest of Athens were festooned in snow, other parts of Greece also experienced the frosty hand of Medea.

The first wave of the Medea weather system was fully underway in Greece on 14 February and it brought snow and icy conditions to many parts of the country including cities on the coast, such as Kavala and Thessaloniki.
