WorkSafe Victoria launched its multilingual “Workplace safety is our Common Language Campaign” last week to coincide with Cultural Diversity Week.
The campaign which is aimed at informing migrants and non English speakers about key safety issues in the workplace in 19 new languages, including Greek, aims to educate migrant and non-English speaking workers and small business employers about key safety issues the workplace. This brings Work Safe’s total translated resources to 28 languages.
A WorkSafe spokesperson said at an online launch of the campaign that 26 percent of the Victorians did not speak English at home and that the issue of language could be a problem at the workplace.
The campaign would go a long way to help people to understand their work safety rights.

One speaker at the online launch, Florence Dato said that work safety was a human right and both employers and employees needed to be proactive over work safety.
“It is important to have work safety regulations in the different languages as we have so may diverse groups in the work places.
