After a highly successful exhibition in Melbourne, The Evzones Collection photo exhibition of the Greek Presidential Guard was put on display in Adelaide at Croydon Park’s Holy Monastery of St Nectarios.

Exhibition Director George Karantonis and curator Eirini Alligiannis were overwhelmed at the opportunity to exhibit this collection within the grounds of the Monastery.

The event organised by the Greek Welfare Centre of South Australia exhibition raised $5,000 for the Central Philoptochos of the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide through a silent auction. The auction photo entitled “From Marbles to Mountain”, jointly awarded to George Diakomichalis and Harry Foundas.

During the formal opening even held on the Friday, a dance-off between the dance groups of the Cretan Association of SA and the Pontian Brotherhood of SA stole the show. The traditional dances complemented the tradition embodied by the collection.

Amongst the dignitaries that attended the opening were Archepiscopal Vicar for the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide, His Grace Bishop Silouan of Sinope, who said “This is a flagship event [of the Archdiocese’s 200-year celebrations of the Greek Revolution], and a cornerstone to all the events that have taken place and that will follow.”

Consul General of Greece in Adelaide George Psiachas also attended the event and spoke about the task of a photographer being able to “immortalise” a moment in time, and complimented Nick Bourdaniotis on his ability to do this.

In 2019, Mr Bourdaniotis collated and assembled The Evzones Collection with over 28 beautifully selected photos capturing and portraying the Evzones from a new perspective.

This exhibition has raised over $25 thousand in donations to date for charities across the country since its February launch in Canberra.

The exhibition will now be making its way to Brisbane on 30 July until 1 August at The Greek Club.
