Victoria on Thursday recorded 766 new local cases of COVID-19 and four deaths, the highest tally ever recorded in Victoria.

The new infections were detected from 62,408 tests processed and 40,957 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered at state-run sites.

Victoria has now reached 74.4 per cent first dose vaccination coverage and at least 45.2 per cent double dose.

The new figures come at a time of protests, especially from construction workers.

The Melbourne Freedom Rally Telegram Group are encouraging employees from across different sectors to “turn up in your work uniform” as Melbourne braces itself for more protests.

Thursday mark the fourth day of protests following angered tradies concerned with mandatory jabs being imposed as well as the construction industry shutdown.

On Wednesday, a mob of 300-400 people swarmed Melbourne despite stay-at-home orders and chanted slogans at the Shrine of Remembrance, which resulted in a stand-off with police.

Two police officers suffered head injuries after bottles were thrown and 215 arrests were made over the course of the day.

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Ross Guenther said “it was completely disrespectful that the crowd ended up at the shrine, which is such hallowed ground in this great city”.
