Greece’s Climate Change and Civil Protection Minister Christos Stylianides announced the closure of all public services in Attica, where the Athens capital is located, on Friday.

Giving a live briefing, which was telecast on Thursday, he said authorities were anticipating more damage as the severe weather phenomenon, sweeps through Greece.

The only public services that will remain operational on Friday are those required for the management of the weather phenomenon, including at local authorities, he said

Minister Stylianides also announced an overnight road traffic ban from 1am to 8am on Thursday at Athens’ Poseidonos coastal avenue and also at the area of Kifissos, where flooding occurred earlier in the day.
