During the recent horrific bushfires in Greece, Tassos Douvartzides, the Chairman of CLA, wrote to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, encouraging Australia to support Greece by sending firefighters and equipment to Greece.

In a letter responding to the request, Prime Minister Scott Morrison indicated that Australia stood by Greece and that he personally had offered Australia’s support to  Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

The Australian Embassy in Greece facilitated a briefing with the Greek Minister of State Akis Skertsos ,  Environment  Minister Kosta Skrekas, Deputy PM Christos Triantopoulos and Deputy Minister for Environmental Protection Giorgos Amyras.

In the briefing, experts shared  Australia’s lessons from the  Black Saturday Bushfires, including its response and recovery arrangements and how Australia is adapting its approach to deal with high-density fires.

The Prime Minister wished the Greek communities affected by the bushfires a quick recovery.

“I certainly appreciate that the Prime Minister took the time to respond personally. His interest in the matter  reflects  the close relationship between Australia and Greece,” Mr Douvartzides said
