A Greek Australian stonemason, aged 25, was tragically killed in an industrial accident in Somerton, 21 km north of Melbourne’s central business district.

WorkSafe Victoria is investigating the incident.

The young Craigieburn man was crushed to death by a forklift at a Fleet St factory, after becoming trapped at around 5.30pm Tuesday. He died at the scene.

WorkSafe Victoria released a statement where it is understood the forklift was being operated on a sloping driveway before tipping and crushing the worker standing nearby.

There have been 44 workplace fatalities in Victoria in 2021.

WorkSafe will be investigating the death, said a police spokesman. The police are preparing a report for the coroner.
