The Greek-Australian Cultural League (GACL) is updating its website to include a Greek-Australian artist directory (performing and visual arts) and is calling on artists to register for inclusion in the directory.

“The GACL is currently updating its website to accommodate this exciting new initiative. The GAAD will be an important online compilation of (visual and performing artists) and will include examples of work, bios and relevant experience, made available for collectors, gallery directors, buyers, and anyone else interested in researching Greek Australian art.

“It will provide visibility and accessibility as well as the preservation of the cultural identity, value and history of Greek Australian artists,” said the GACL in a recent statement.

A Greek Australian Artist Directory (GAAD) was identified by the GACL members as an important project to pursue to complement the organisation’s annual Antipodean Palette exhibition and the “Antipodes” periodical that is published annually.

The GACL said the introduction of the directory would: “offer opportunity for greater awareness of the many talented artists who exist and have existed in our Australian community since early migration. It is therefore important we actively continue to develop the collection of Greek Australian artists and explore ways of improving access to these artists and their works.

“The GAAD will celebrate, educate and document the memory and life of Greek Australian artists whose contributions have been important to the arts and cultural landscape of Australia. Its creation will hopefully embrace and enhance connection amongst all artists to develop greater collaborative relationships within our community and beyond.”
