The Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies in collaboration with the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria, the Cypriot Community of Melbourne, the Panarcadian Federation of Australia, the  fraternities of Imvrian and Lemnians and the Committee for the Bicentennial Celebrations for the Greek War of Independence, is re-organizing the book launch entitled Imbros and Tenedos: The Pendulum  of an Interracial Drama.

This book was published by AIMS as constitutes its participation to the Bi-centennial Celebrations and is dedicated to everlasting memory of the founding deceased members, namely Harry and Vicky  Giannoulopoulou, Giannis Ninis, Athanasios Karabatsas, Makis Kasapidis, Kostas  Chatzistavrou, Plutarch, Deliyiannis, Nikos  Kefalidis, Dimitrios  Kondoleon and Panagiotis Liveriadis.

The book was authored by Professor Anastasios M. Tamis and was documented based on the archives collected by Panagiotis Kalaitzis. The monograph refers to the period of the liberation of the islands (1912-1923), the years that followed, the difficult bi-racial relations between the two communities, the arduous years of the systematic nationalist campaign of the Turkish authorities to de-Hellenize the islands, the efforts of the Greeks to preserve their ethno-linguistic cultural identity, the struggles of the expatriate Imvrians and Tenedians to strengthen and support the elders to maintain the Greek-language education and to keep it socially and economically upright, their relations with the Turkish authorities, the good years with the leadership of the Democratic Party in power (1946-1960),  and the difficult years that followed, always emphasizing the Greek-Turkish relations as a result and the outcome of the course of the Cyprus issue.

The book launch will take place at the Nikos Andrianakos Center of Alphington  Grammar  School,  Fairfield, on Friday, November 26, 2021, at 6.00  pm, by the university teacher Mr. Panagiotis Gogidis, Secretary of the AIMS. Visitors will be welcomed by the Principal of the School, Dr. Vivianne Nikou, while the President of the Greek Community, Mr. Vassilios Papastergiadis, OAM will welcome the guests at the venue. Salutations will be delivered by the President of its Cypriot Community of Melbourne and Victoria, former Minister, Mr. Th. Theophanous, the President of the Panarcadian Federation, Mr. D. Alexopoulos, OAM, the representative of Imvrians Mr. G. Xynos, the Vice President of Lemnians, Mr. Con  Hagi  and the  Chairman of the Committee of the Bicentennial Celebrations for the Greek Revolution, Mr. A. Tsourdalakis. The Pegasus Music Academy of Sotiris Sotiriou will perform three local dances. The book launch  will be followed by a short Memorial Service for Panagiotis Liveriadis, whose books will be offered gratis. A reception with a light lunch, offered by the  AIMS and  Alphington  Grammar. The event is open only to those who have been vaccinated and have with them their vaccination certificate.
