The family of Neos Kosmos is deeply saddened by the death of John Carras, our regular contributor from Queensland, who passed away at the age of 93 on the date of his birthday.
His son George and daughter Anna, informed us of the death of their father at their family home with his beloved wife of 62 years, Mitsi, by his side.
The couple’s fairytale meeting took place in Greece and Mr Carra first ‘met’ his wife through photographs of her published in the Athens daily newspaper Kathimerini. She was a beauty pageant entrant for Star Hellas and also played the body double of Greek actress Aliki Vouyiouklaki in two of her films.
Mr Carras played soccer for AEK and was also a sports reporter for Apogevmatini newspaper, writing under the name Karathanasis.
They married in 1961, and came to Australia in 1965, where they lived in Brisbane until today.
In recent years, he has been a correspondent for Neos Kosmos from Gold Coast and Brisbane.
Funeral details have yet to be announced.
