A Milwaukee transport organisation named one of its routes after Milwaukee Bucks basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in honour of his achievements on the basketball court and in the community.

The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) said last week that that it was  the right time to name the bus route, officially known as Route 34 (Hopkins-Congreess) as the “Giannis Line” on 5 December, the day before the basketball star’s 27th birthday.

“This route and Giannis’ uniform already share the same number, so it’s only natural to name the route in recognition of the historic contributions Giannis has already given to the people of Milwaukee. In other words, this is MCTS’s birthday gift to the Most Valued Player (MVP),” said the MCTS.

“MCTS has been a part of the fabric of the Milwaukee community for decades and now so will the Bucks’ superstar who, along with his teammates, brought our city its first NBA championship in 50 years.

“More importantly, Giannis has been an upstanding figure in the Milwaukee community ever since he arrived back in 2013, including his participation in the social justice movement of 2020.”
