Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was discharged from the American Hospital of Istanbul on Thursday, following six days of hospitalization after being infected by the coronavirus’ Omicron variant.

The Greek Orthodox leader, who was fully vaccinated, will remain in isolation at the patriarchal residence in Therapeia before returning to the Phanar to lead celebrations for Epiphany, according to a statement.

Turkey’s Health Minister spoke with him on Wednesday night, in the third such call, to ask after his health and offer his ministry’s support when needed. The prelate conveyed his best wishes for the new year and for the ministry’s efforts to fight the pandemic in the country.
