Reports from Israel confirm a new type of double infection that has been detected combining COVID-19 and influenza.

According to Arab News the first case was detected in a pregnant woman who was admitted to a hospital for delivery.

The woman’s condition was serious and she was not vaccinated against coronavirus as reported by Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

Florona is not a new variant of COVID-19 and the name is not yet listed as proper definition by the World Health Organization (WHO) but it said that according to anecdotal data “it is possible for the two viruses to coexist”.

Israel is already administering a fourth dose while the public is being urged to consider getting their seasonal flu vaccinations up to date.

The Health Ministry’s Director-General Nachman Ash launched the boosters program for immuno-suppressed and elderly citizens in an attempt to curb the Omicron infection wave, as long as at least four months have passed since their third shot, Time of Israel reported.
