The Greek community in Melbourne is shocked and saddened by the untimely death from COVID-19, of yet another Greek Australian.

Ange Drossas was only 54 years old. The news of his death from COVID complications on Wednesday was received with disbelief amongst the many who knew him through his enthusiastic involvement in the local soccer clubs.

Ange Drossas was taken by ambulance to hospital on Christmas Day, his sister Ourania Drossas told Neos Kosmos.

The beloved father of three boys, had received both doses of the vaccine and was particularly careful, as just two years ago he had undergone a kidney transplant, which had been successful.

The most tragic thing, according to his sister, is that he managed to beat death once.

His wife, Sonia, donated her kidney, and he recovered quickly before he was struck down by the virus in December.

For two days, his fever was over 40 degrees, and he was taken into to hospital on Christmas Day.

“He was an amazing father, a wonderful husband, brother and uncle,” Ms Drossas adds, upset and frustrated that due to restrictions that were reinstated, she was unable to say goodbye.

At least his mother, his wife, and his three children were granted an exemption to see him, before he passed on.
