The Institute of Macedonian Studies is bringing famous Greek singer Dimitris Basis to Melbourne in collaboration with the Greek and Cypriot Communities and the Australian Research Institute, for a concert and dance evening on 28 May at the fully renovated Stars International Hall.

The cultural event comes after the publication and release of the book on Imvros and Tenedos, and will be dedicated to the Hellenism of Asia Minor, the years of its prosperity but also to the years of uprooting from 1922 onwards.

The night will begin with Dimitris Basis and his orchestra performing classic compositions by Theodorakis, Markopoulos, Loizos, songs of Mitropanos and his own songs, as well as selected iconic folk songs.

“The night will create memorable moments and rare emotions that can’t be put into words for our guests. They will leave the event with memories of an unforgettable Greek night,” Mr Basis said.

A dance performance along selected songs loved by the Greeks worldwide will follow. Our own Doukissa Filippou and her orchestra will also perform at the event.

In addition, an anniversary program of 40 pages will be released with notes on Asia Minor and Anatolia where Hellenism, from the years of Alexander the Great to the Regiment of Cretan Evzones led by Colonel Nikolaos Plastiras, the Satan Esker (Devils Army) as the Turkish fighters called it, in the depths of Asia and Saggarios. The Anniversary Program is supported by sponsorships from Greek businesses and it will be released in hundreds of copies available to the event attendees and guests. More copies of the program will be distributed to Hellenic schools after the event.
