The Greek state agency Enterprise Greece has given its approval to fast track a Microsoft investment project for three data centres in Greece.

The project will create the data centres at Spata and Koropi in the Attica region, provide technological business support and cloud computing services to Greece. It is also expected to create 300 new jobs over 10 years.

The investor, a subsidiary of Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, is linked to the Microsoft Corporation which has been operating in Greece since 1992.

Enterprise Greece which is the official investment and trade promotion agency of the Greek state and operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement that investment would amount to several hundred million euros.

The chairman of Enterprise Greece, Ioannis Smyrlis said: the investment was important to the Greek economy as it expanded the country’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector and would provide the sector with “unique opportunities in value-added services with a global reach”.
