Hundreds of hotels in Europe entered the 8th Historic Hotels of Europe Awards competition, a participation level that exceeded all expectations.
The awards ceremony saw 30 winners stand out in 10 categories, as selected by thousands of tourists and scholars of culture and history, who voted for their favorite candidate hotels, Travel.gr reported.
For the first time, this year the awards included two new categories, the Historic Hotel Sustainability Award and the New Entry Historic Hotel Award.
For Greece, the golden award in the category of the most romantic hotel, the Historic Romantic Hideaway Hotel Award 2022, was won by Esperas Santorini, in the picturesque town of Oia.
Perched high on the rocks of Oia, each of the 17 traditional island studios that belong to the resort is carved into the rock, complimenting the traditional architecture of Santorini using natural elements and local materials for decoration, while offering stunning sea views.
In the category of the best natural location, hotel Kyrimai, in Gerolimenas, Mani took the silver award in the Historic Natural Setting Hotel Award category. This is a property that is a wonderful example of architecture, with 18 rooms and suites.
Meanwhile, its award-winning cuisine which honours locally sourced ingredients and traditional flavours has garnered important gastronomy distinctions, both in Greece and in Europe.
Lastly, Allegory Boutique Hotel in Rhodes received the bronze medal in the new Historic Hotel Sustainability Award category.
The hotel offers a beautiful balance between tradition and modern design with six luxurious suites, with ergonomically designed spaces, retaining the impressive wooden beams of the original architecture.
Earthy colors, refined décor, artwork, and solid stone walls are some of the special features of Allegory Suites that bring out the building’s initial identity.
