The defending Greek Cup champions, PAOK, knocked out Olympiacos in dramatic fashion to set up a huge final against Panathinaikos, where they will be aiming for their fifth cup win in the last six seasons.

The Double-headed eagle of the North only just scraped past the Piraeus giants in the second leg of the Cup semi-finals, progressing following a 1-1 draw at Karaiskakis stadium after 120 minutes of play and thanks to the away-goal rule.

The match, much like the first leg, remained goalless after 90 minutes of tense football, but it sprang into life when Olympiacos was awarded a penalty by VAR late into the first period of extra time.

Star striker Youssef El Arabi cheekily converted his spot-kick by chipping it down the middle to give his side a huge boost (105′).

PAOK fought back and found an equaliser after some good team play, which was polished off with a tap-in from forward Antonio Colak (108′).

Tensions rose as a member of PAOK’s staff was sent off (115′) but the Thessalonians composed themselves to hold on to a famous result, winning 1-1 on aggregate via away goals in front of the Olympiacos faithful.

Panathinaikos downed Lamia 0-2 away from home to progress to their first Greek Cup final since 2014, which they won 4-1 against PAOK.

The “Trifylli” went ahead through young striker Fotis Ioannidis who intercepted the ball after a loose headed touch from Adam Tzanetopoulos, finishing expertly into the bottom left corner (42′) for his second goal of the tie and his fourth overall against the Fthiotida side this season.

The Greens secured their place in the Cup final after some good pressure from winger Aitor led to fellow winger Sebastian Palacios guiding the ball into the bottom right (58′).

Lamia did find the back of the net through Lass Bangoura, but he was found to be offside (61′), with Panathinaikos officially winning the tie 3-0 on aggregate.

The final will take place on Sunday May 22 (AEST) after the league season has officially concluded.
