The Greek-Australian Cultural League has published the Term Two school holiday dates for its arts and culture GACL KIDS program for children aged 7-11 from June 29 to July 1 at the Gasworks Art Studio in Albert Park.

In the program, there are three two-hour sessions. Each session will start at 10.30am to finish at 12.30pm and will cover a different theme each day. Materials will be supplied for each session which will cost $20 or $50 to attend all three sessions.

On Wednesday June 29 , it will be Feather and Chain Paintings: Icarus and his Wings focused on the story of Icarus

On Thursday, June 30 , the session will be devoted to Paint without a Brush: Flowers in Greek Mythology. Greek flower myths are a favourite of many. For this sessions objects that are available at home will be used to create flower effects. The myths explored include the story of Clytie, the sad sunflower, Iris the rainbow goddess and other stories of nymphs and maidens of ancient Greek mythology.

The final session, Story Telling Through Art: Loss and Resilience on Friday, July 1, is suitable for children aged 9-11and will look at how art is a means of guiding children through expression and reflection on emotions, social and self awareness. Art and music will be used in this session to visually communicate emotions of loss, displacement, hope and resilience.

Parents can drop off their children and visit the Gasworks Cafe or explore the Gasworks Arts Park or visit the nearby South Melbourne Market.
