The 66th Eurovision Song Contest the crowd in Turin, Italy, was entertained live by 25 big numbers, after two pandemic years.
The 25 country representatives graced the stage showing vocal and dance skills, fashion and drama.
In an agonising first part of scoring from the judges the board saw the UK in first place, with Sweden, Spain and Ukraine as well as Serbia sitting at the top.
In typical Eurovision fashion, it all changed when the votes of the public came in.
Ukraine took more than 400 points from the public with 631 points in total, winning the world’s vote of empathy and jumping to first place as predicted. Kalush Orchestra wowed the arena crowd and viewers at home with their performance of “Stefania”.
The UK’s Sam Ryder finished second with 466 points, after topping the standings following the jury vote and getting 186 from televoters.
Spain finished third with 228 points from the public at 459, followed by Sweden with 438.
Serbia was also pushed with public votes reaching 312 in total, while Italy got 268.
In a surprise move, Molvova got over 240 phone votes rising from the bottom of the score board with 253 and the seventh place.
Greece got 57 points from the audience shocking presenters as it was one of the favourites to win with what was dubbed “the best ballad of this year’s competition”.
Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord still made it on to eight place with “Die Together” even though the televoters preferred more action packed songs.
Australia’s Sheldon Riley with Not the Same did not receive the points required to move past the top ten.
Two of the big five, Germany with 6 and France with 17 votes in total ended at the bottom of the board.
