DIMITRIS BASIS GREEK NIGHT AT STARS HALL
The Institute of Macedonian Studies is bringing famous Greek singer Dimitris Basis to Melbourne in collaboration with the Greek and Cypriot Communities and the Australian Research Institute, for a concert and dance evening on 28 May at the fully renovated Stars International Hall. The cultural event comes after the publication and release of the book on Imvros and Tenedos, and will be dedicated to the Hellenism of Asia Minor. A dance performance along selected songs loved by the Greeks worldwide will follow. Doukissa Filippou and her orchestra will also perform at the event. Ticket prices range from $120 to $150 and include complete dinner, menu, with two bottles, desserts, soft drinks and coffee.

COURAGE TO CARE TURNS 30: EDUCATION PANEL BREAKFAST EVENT
As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations, Courage to Care will host a special panel discussion Talking Upstander Action: A discussion about Discrimination which will moderated by writer and social commentator Dr Susan Carland with specialist panelists including academic Dr Shakira Hussein, Department of Education and Training’s Kristy Lang and Aaron Clark from the Korin Gamadji Institute.

FECCA 2022 CONFERENCE

After a long hiatus, FECCA 2022 Conference will come together face-to-face next year in Melbourne holding a conference where multicultural communities, policy makers, service providers, academics and many more, can delve into several current topics. The initial lineup of excellent speakers include Patricia Turner AM, Behrouz Boochani, Megan Davis, Kumi Taguchi, and Nyadol Nyuon.

GREEK LOVE AT THE HELLENIC MUSEUM
After several delays due to COVID-19, the Hellenic Museum will be hold its one off evening of Greek Love: Desire, Sexuality and Identity in the Classical World next month. It provides an opportunity to uncover “queer-coded histories, mythologies of antiquity.” The Hellenic Museum says Greek Love will inform entertain as well as challenge how we, as a modern audience, interpret the past and how it relates to contemporary LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) representations.

GACL KIDS HOLIDAY PROGRAM
The Greek-Australian Cultural League has put out the Term 2 school holiday dates for its arts and culture GACL KIDS program for children aged 7-11 from 29 June to 1 July at the Gasworks Art Studio in Albert Park. On Wednesday 29 June, it will be Feather and Chain Paintings: Icarus and his Wings. On Thursday, 30 June, the session will be devoted to Paint without a Brush: Flowers in Greek Mythology. The final session, Story Telling Through Art: Loss and Resilience on Friday, 1July, is suitable for children aged 9-11

When: Three individual sessions on different themes, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Wednesday 29 June to Friday 1 July.

Over 60 speakers drawn from Australia, Europe, North America and Africa will talk about all aspects the Hellenic Diaspora through the ages.

DIMITRIS BASIS PERFORMS THEODORAKIS’ THE BALLAD OF THE DEAD BROTHER
The Greek Orthodox Community of NSW is presenting a concert in honour of Mikis Theodorakis titled: MIKIS THEODORAKIS 1925-2021 THE BALLAD OF THE DEAD BROTHER & HIS GREATEST HITS, at the Adelaide Town Hall on Friday 20 May and at the Queensland Performance Arts Centre on Friday 27 May, 2022. Featuring international artist Dimitris Basis, a symphony orchestra and choir directed by George Ellis, Greek band and special guest Maria Yiakoulis the audience will enjoy a 2.5 hour immersive performance.

The Adelaide City Library, in association with 2022 South Australia’s History Festival, is presenting Amber Glow Over Adelaide. An exhibition of new paintings that re-imagine Adelaide’s heritage buildings as alfresco social spaces, in oils by artist George Linou.
