World No.4 Maria Sakkari has secured a spot in the second round of Roland Garros for the fifth consecutive year after obliterating No.95 Clara Burel in a straight-sets win on Sunday (local time).

The Greek star defeated Burel 6-2, 6-3 in their first-round match on Court Philippe Chatrier in 1 hour and 28 minutes.

Sakkari fired 24 winning points, nearly double her French opponent’s 13 who she also broke five times.

The fourth seed will face Muchova in the second round.

This will be the third time that Maria Sakkari and Karolina Muchova to face each other.

The last time that they met, Muchova won 6-0, 6-7, 7-5 in the 3rd round in Madrid back in 2021.
