Ange Postecoglou has reassured fans that he could not be happier and that his future remains with Celtic despite his not yet signing a new, improved contract.

Online publication Givemesport.com reported that the Scottish club hierarchy was keen to reward the Greek-Australian who they originally signed on a year-long rolling contract when they brought him over Yokohama F Marinos before the start of the 2021-22 season last year.

The gamble on the unknown former Socceroo coach was not well-received by fans at the time who were still smarting from losing the Premiership to traditional rivals Rangers by a massive 25 points the previous season.

Adding to the fans’ uncertainty, the Greek-Australian was to bring in a total of 17 new players while selling off veterans who did not want to work with him. And while early performances did not help Postecoglou’s cause, the new-look team began to gel.

The attacking brand of football he introduced won over doubters as he hauled in log leaders Rangers and went unbeaten for 32 games. In the process he delivered a domestic double – the League Cup and the Scottish Premiership – and qualification into Champions League football in the coming season.

Postecoglou has moved to calm Celtic fan fears that he is looking elsewhere.

“People shouldn’t fret about that stuff. That’s not what drives me. It’s not what I am kind of seeking.

“I am at a big football club, with 60,000 people here each week. It’s one of the most famous clubs in the world, we will be playing in the Champions League next year and I can win trophies. I couldn’t be happier,” Postecoglou said.
