It’s a weekend of cup finals in Victoria this weekend with the Dockerty Cup and Nike FC Cup up for grabs with the action being streamed live online for those who cannot make it to the games.

On Saturday (This afternoon FOR PRINT) Oakleigh Cannons take on Bentleigh Greens at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park for the Dockety Cup final which will begin at 4pm. Live online coverage will begin 30 minutes before the start of the game through npl.tv and Football Victoria’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

The competition was first played 113 years ago with some interruptions, this is the 97th cup final for a competition that involved 104 clubs at State League 4 and 5 division.

Finally, the five sides that were able to qualify for the national stage of the Australia Cup this year broke off to form the playoffs to reach the Dockerty Cup Final.

Bentleigh have twice won the cup in its current format (introduced in 2014), in 2016 and 2018. Between 2015 and2019, the Greens have won one piece of silverware a year, including the Dockerty Cup brace and an NPL championship.

The Cannons, however, who lost the 2015 final to South Melbourne, were buoyed by being named 2021 NPL Victoria Premiers recently.

Oakleigh head coach Chris Taylor said the team that scored 81 goals in all competitions this season was ready to fulfill its potential and add more silver to the trophy cabinet. It was also the team that defeated last year’s cup holders Avondale FC 3-2 in a tough semi-final to earn their place against the Greens.

“I think the big thing is for Oakleigh to start winning trophies. They’ve been a team that’s promised so much for so long,” he said. “Everyone at the club is excited and has bought in to what we’re doing this year. I think the pleasing part is that we’re playing good football, which is nice that we’re winning in style as well,” he said.

On Sunday afternoon, at 4pm, the Nike Cup final between the women’s teams of South Melbourne FC and Calder United Soccer at the Valley Park Events Centre in Broadmeadows.

While Football Victoria will stream the game online through its Facebook and YouTube channels, starting from 3.30pm, Optus Sport will stream the event for its subscribers.

Foorball Victoria CEO Kimon Taliodoros praised Optus Sport for covering the Nike FC Cup final.

“The appetite for women’s football is growing exponentially and we thank Optus Sport for their elevation of the Nike FC Cup again in 2022. We are thrilled that subscribers across the nation can experience the quality football that the two teams will deliver on Sunday,” Mr Taliodoros said.
