When English count cricket side Sussex beat Leicestershire by eight wickets this weekend, they had Greek international player Ari Karvelas to thank, as he led his side’s bowling attack with an impressive 4 wickets for just 21 runs.

The Royal London One-Day Cup match at Hove was over in just 50.5 overs after Kavelaris and his fellow bowlers saw off Leicstershire for just 120 runs over 32.4 overs.

The Greek-South African is also a skilled batsman although he did not to prove his prowess with the bat this weekend.

Sussex chose Karvelas, 28, who is on a month’s trial, to lead their bowling attack. ESPN cricinfo said the player was born in South Africa and represented Greece in the T20 international against Italy.

“I played some first-class cricket in South Africa, which helped before I made my county debut at Lord’s (the famous cricket ground in London), last month. This is a great opportunity because Sussex have gone out on a limb for me.

“We keep getting better and that showed today. The ball was nipping around. It helps when there is a little assistance in the wicket. We were relentless hitting our lengths as a unit. And we imposed our stature with the bat which is what you have to do chasing small totals.”
