For decades, David Davidopoulos entertained the Greek community in Australia and beyond.
He spread joy playing his harmonium, his accordion, or singing, in the Greek clubs, in concerts. He played for weddings, baptisms, celebrations, restaurants, taverns, schools and even nursing homes.
David Davidopoulos is no longer with us. He died recently and as a close member of his family told Neos Kosmos, “his wish was to go as quietly as possible”.
The talented conductor was well known in the community. He had a Music School where he taught hundreds of young Greeks in Melbourne.

Apart from his numerous performances in Australia, Davidopoulos has travelled the world, collaborating with leading Greek singers in major concerts.
As legendary singer, Grigoris Bithikotsis, once told Neos Kosmos, “David was one of the top Greek conductors.”
His death has caused immense sadness. Fellow musicians say that David was not only an amazing musician, he was also a wonderful human being.
He arrived in Australia in the 1960s and has performed alongside almost everyone.
For many years in the summers he used to go to Greece where he would also perform in luxury tourist hotels playing piano and singing.
