PAOK have delivered a huge statement victory over Panathinaikos at “Leoforos” in a massive result that demonstrates their strength, with AEK coming within one point of the league leaders as a result.

The Double-headed eagle of the North thumped the “Trifylli” 0-3 on Monday morning (AEDT) in the headline fixture of the Greek Super League’s 19th round to firmly put themselves in title contention.

The black and white club went ahead just before half time in fortuitous fashion as a save from goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli deflected off the chest of teammate Ruben Perez and into the net (44′).

PAOK came out of the break firing, doubling their lead inside the first minute through a finish from winger Andrija Zivkovic before they secured the win six minutes later via a strike from midfielder Giannis Konstantelias into the bottom right.

Panathinaikos defender and captain Bart Schenkeveld was sent off for a second yellow in the 90+2′ minute to cap off a horrid night for the league leaders.

AEK launched a late comeback to down Ionikos 1-2 away to capitalise on the Greens’ poor derby loss.

The Nikaia club took a surprising lead in the 38th minute when a quick counter-attack saw forward Seba strike the ball into the bottom right and they managed to hold onto the advantage for the majority of the game.

Centre back Domagoj Vida started Enosi’s resurgence with a corner header (82′) and winger Steven Zuber soon put his side ahead with a powerful strike into the top left (90+2′), sealing a crucial three points for the visitors.

Atromitos came from behind to record an impressive 1-1 home draw against Olympiacos.

Striker Cedric Bakambu put the Piraeus giants in front after releasing a powerful shot that raced into the top right (54′).

The Peristeriotes responded just ten minutes later with their own goal through midfielder Samuel Fridjonsson, who latched onto a long ball and lobbed it expertly over goalkeeper Alexandros Paschalakis.

Levadiakos and Lamia were forced to settle for a scoreless draw in a result which prolongs Lamia’s winless league run to 13 matches.

A hat-trick from playmaker Manu Garcia steered Aris to a fantastic 3-0 success against Volos at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” ground on Sunday morning, allowing the Thessaloniki outfit to ascend past their opponents into fifth place.

Garcia opened the scoring with a tidy finish into the right side of the goal from a very tight angle (47′) before bagging his second with a low-driven strike into the bottom left on the hour mark.

The Spaniard then closed out his evening with a long-range effort that sailed past goalkeeper Boris Klaiman (74′), wrapping up a wonderful night for the hosts.

OFI fought their way to a 1-0 home win over Asteras Tripolis, with midfielder Luis Perea’s late free kick header proving the difference between the two sides (88′).

Panetolikos was held to a 1-1 home draw by Giannina on Saturday morning following a dramatic conclusion to the match.

The Agrinio broke the deadlock 82 minutes into the contest, thanks to a powerful finish from substitute Frederico Duarte, for what seemed destined to be the winner.
