Supreme Court Prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakos ordered an urgent preliminary inquiry into the claims of an article run by the newspaper “Vima on Sunday”, regarding alleged dialogue and contact between high-ranking Hellenic Police officers and criminal gang bosses.

The case was forwarded to the head of the Athens first-instance court prosecutors’ office, Antonis Eleftherianos, with instructions to assign two prosecutors to the case, a regular prosecutor and an assistant, so that it might be completed as quickly as possible.

According to the article, these conversations were found in mobile phone chat apps, such as Viber and Whats App, of gang bosses executed in contract killings. In these, very senior police officials can be heard saying that they will assist rings involved in fuel smuggling and other criminals by not conducting thorough checks and allowing them to operate unhindered.

A part of the conversations was revealed after the murder in cold blood of a fuel station owner, AMNA reported.
