The Hellenic Museum is bringing The Voice of Greece, Giorgos Dalaras to Melbourne on Saturday, 20 May for an exclusive charity concert at the Margaret Court Arena, to mark the Hellenic Museum’s 15th anniversary.

The proceeds from the tickets will be allocated to preserving and promoting Hellenism for future generations through world-class exhibitions and programs.

On Friday, 26 May Dalaras will perform another live concert in Sydney, at the NSW State Theatre. The program includes selected classics from his repertoire with Aspasia Stratigou and Violeta Ikari in supporting vocals.

Dalaras, has made a significant contribution to the music industry in Greece and beyond. Born in 1949 in Piraeus, Greece, Dalaras (previously Daralas) comes from a family of musicians, and started his music career at a young age, recording his first album at the age of 16.

Throughout his career, Dalaras has experimented with various genres of music, including traditional Greek music, contemporary pop, and even rock. He is also known for his collaborations with musicians from around the world, including Sting, Bruce Springsteen, and Paco de Lucia, among others.

One of Dalaras’ most notable achievements is his contribution to the revival of rembetiko music, a genre that was popular in Greece in the early 20th century but had fallen out of favor by the mid-20th century. Dalaras’ renditions of rembetiko classics, along with his original compositions in the same style, helped bring the genre back into the mainstream and introduced it to a new generation of music fans.

Over the course of his career, Dalaras has released more than 70 albums, won numerous awards, and performed all over the world. He is often referred to as the “voice of Greece” for his powerful vocals and his ability to capture the essence of Greek music in his performances.

In addition to his musical contributions, Dalaras is also known for his activism and philanthropy. He has used his platform to advocate for social and political issues, such as human rights and environmental protection, and has supported various charitable organisations throughout his career.
