As a tribute to his Greek heritage and desire to promote Greece to a global audience, renowned Greek-American ultramarathon runner Constantine ‘Dean’ Karnazes has joined forces with award-winning sports tourism and wellness agency ActiveMedia Group to launch ‘Greek Running Tours’.

Through this new project which he calls a ‘runcation’, Karnazes wants to give participants the opportunity to explore Greece on foot, experiencing history and beauty, eating the food and exploring this legendary land in a way that few tourists ever will.

Named by TIME magazine in their 100 Most Influential People in the World list, Karnazes once ran 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days.

Moreover, he has raced and competed around the world, including having completed a 135-mile (217 km) run without a stop through Death Valley, California and a marathon to the South Pole.

He has twice carried the Olympic Torch and has received the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition Lifetime Achievement Award. It is this experience in speed, endurance and consistency that he aims to combine with the beauty of the Hellenic landscape and the benefits of the Greek diet.

Greek Running Tours offers a scenic run (and a walking option for non-runners) each day, that will include cultural experiences and holiday activities.

The stops between the runs will include anything from bread making on the mountains of Crete, to olive pressing in Kalamata, world-class accommodation, dining in highly-rated regional cuisine eateries, and a full suite of spa and sports massage services that will titillate the senses and soothe the soul.

Each running route is specifically designed for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, adhering to the highest standards of sustainability and eco-tourism. The runs are organised and led by experts and locals with support provided along the way.
