To assist parents challenged by how to approach their teens or tweens, PRONIA has partnered with Parentzone-Anglicare to present ‘Communicating with your tweenager’, an informative webinar that aims to break down communication barriers and enable positive and rewarding interactions between parents and children.

The goal is to help teens and tweens approach their teenage years as the relationship dynamic with their parents changes; as they begin to navigate adulthood and forge their individual identities.

While this is a normal developmental stage, it is often riddled with difficult years for both parties, something that becomes more prevalent in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities (CALD). The result can lead to ineffective communication between parents and children that can create even more distance between them and damage what was previously a close relationship. During these difficult years, children start to pull away from their parents, needing more independence, privacy and freedom to make their own decisions; often they will view mum and dad as irrelevant who don’t understand their life. Parents on the other hand, can react emotionally when their teenager no longer wants to spend time with family, concerned about risk taking behaviour with irreversible consequences.

PRONIA and ParentZone experts have partnered in order to deliver practical and supportive methods for families to transition smoothly into a more balanced and long lasting dynamic.
