Elina Tzengko took the first place in the European Cup in javelin throwing, held in Leiria, Portugal.

The European champion sent the javelin to 63.65m to win the gold medal.

The throw was the fourth best of her career, following her 65.81m and personal best in 2022, as well as a 65.40m and a 63.96m throw , both accomplished in the same year.

Tzengko started the competition with a throw of 53.47m, continued with 61.78m and 57.30m.

Her fourth throw was deemed invalid, followed by one at 58.36m before sending her javelin to 63.65m on her sixth and last last throw, celebrating with her coach George Botskariov.

Marija Vussenovic (Serbia) came second with 60.65m, with her compatriot Adriana Vilagos taking the bronze medal following a 59.83m throw.

Earlier, Aphrodite Maniou in the B group of javelin throwing took fourth place with 55.50m, behind Norway’s Sigrid Bogue who came first with 58.63m.
