Though news is often serious business, from time to time there are those more light-hearted stories which come across the editor’s desk at Neos Kosmos.

Such is the case of 94-year-old Panagiota Triantafyllou who only recently, donated more than 30 dolls she’d made by her own hand, to Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital.

Kostas Karamarkos took to Facebook to share the good deed of one of our community’s elders, dubbing her an example of “the cultural wealth of first generation migrant Greek women.”

Having originally made the dolls to keep herself, her act of charity certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“Mrs Panagiota you’re a legend for all of us!” wrote one commenter, “many kisses and thank you to Kostas for sharing this.”

Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou, founder of the Greek Australian Womens’ network Food for Thought likewise shared the sentiment, “What a legend!” she said.

“The hand knitted dolls would’ve made some children very happy!” said another.

Karamarkos noted in his post sharing the good works that it was clear; a life of hard work and the strains of raising a family have done nothing to dull the creativity of Mrs Triantafyllou.

If anything, it’s evidently instilled within her an uncompromising commitment to the principles of philanthropy.
