Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Greek people, a message of congratulations for Greek Independence Day.

Erdogan conveyed thanks to the Hellenic Government and the people of Greece for the solidarity, in thought and action, which the country showed their neighbour in the wake of February’s devastating earthquakes.

“I take this opportunity to repeat my best wishes both for your personal health and well-being and for the health and well-being of the Greek people,” the message read.

Turkey’s leader expressed certainty that relations between the two countries will continue to develop through bilateral engagement.

“I am convinced that the relationship and cooperation between our countries will further develop with our joint efforts in the coming period,” Erdogan noted.

“Turkey extends a hand of understanding”

In a similar vein, Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey’s Foreign Affairs minister shared a congratulatory message with his Greek contemporary Nikos Dendias on 25 March.

AMNA reports that Cavusoglu also expressed his confidence that the “good neighbourly relations” Greece and Turkey are currently experiencing would in the future become the rule, rather than the exception.

Cavusoglu noted his intention to personally further the positive diplomatic environment shared between the two nations at present.

The Turkish Foreign Minister likewise conveyed thanks to Greece’s administration and all Greeks for the aid lent to Turkey following the deadly earthquakes.

Turkey’s embassy in Athens echoed the sentiments of the two top politicians, addressing the Greek administration and people via Twitter.

“We congratulate the people and the government of the Hellenic Republic on their National Day,” the post read.
