The GleNTi week in Darwin continued on Tuesday night with the third annual GleNTi Cup.

Hellenic Athletic and Darwin Olympic competed for not only premiership points, but the GleNTi Cup and bragging rights over the other.

The eventful night kicked off at 6pm with the women’s premier league teams, and in what was a tight fought battle, neither could be separated with a 2-2 draw.

This was the first year the women competed for the cup, with both taking home a shared trophy.

The men’s match however was far from a close-knit affair.

Hellenic Athletic continued their dominant start to the season with an 8-1 victory in front of a capacity crowd at Darwin Football Stadium.

Athletic currently sit top of the table across both the men’s and women’s leagues while Olympic are struggling with just one win thus far.

Across both games, the juniors had a chance to play at half time, getting to show the thousands in attendance what the future of both club may look like.

President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NA Nicholas Poniris told Neos Kosmos the entire event was well received, and that there may be big things in store for the future.

“The football federation (Football Northern Territory) would like to see how we can make it a bigger event next year,” he said.

“It’s the third year in now and we’re quite pleased with the result so far, and we’re looking forward to expanding to another level. How? I’m not sure yet.”

Poniris suggests that they turn it into a full day event, with a festival at the ground prior to the games.
