Friends of Karagiozis will rejoice to the news of the beloved Greek folkloric puppet character appearing on a Melbourne stage next week.
The Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne’s Shadow Puppet Theatre will present three Karagiozis shadow puppet theatre performances as part of the Oakleigh Community’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
Taking place at the Saints Anargyroi Greek Language Centre, the shows promise a taste of authentic Greek staple entertainment suitable for young and old alike.
Known for his comical adventures, loud voice and witty dialogues, Karagiozis is one of the most iconic Greek folk heroes. His tales enacted by the puppeteers, have been keeping the audience laughing since the Ottoman rule time to this day.
