ERT is spreading its wings, packing up its most precious content and embarking on a journey to connect with Greeks Diaspora bringing them closer to Greece.
Under the banner of ‘ERTFLIX: Bringing you closer to home’, ERT’s international expansion aims to serve as a bridge of communication between the Greek Diaspora and Hellas.
ERT’s new television series, Greek cinema, and music programs offer diverse entertainment options as well as excellent scientific and historical documentaries, and cultural programs, all which paint a vivid picture of Greece’s rich history while revealing its modern identity.
“ERTFLIX envisions a global Greek community, proud of their homeland’s image. Continuous efforts will focus on improving and enriching content based on the preferences, perceptions, needs, and aesthetics of Greeks around the world,” said Kostas Mahairas, ERT’s Director of the Greek Diaspora.
“In the ever-evolving landscape of global television, ERTFLIX aims to stand alongside other major platforms, representing the impressive progress of public broadcasting. It’s a television service that values pluralism, reliability, accuracy, viewer respect, and technological advancement set to become a modern platform that connects and engages with Greeks worldwide, ensuring that they stay close to their roots no matter where they are.”
ERT has also launched ERTnews, a new 24-hour live news channel, ensuring viewers stay up to date with a comprehensive and accurate view of current events in Greece and around the world.
Greece’s national broadcaster also covers everything sport-related from the Greek Basket League to football’s Super League Greece, volleyball, handball, and athletics.
Meanwhile, award-winning series such as ‘Kane Oti Kimasei’ from ERT1 are now available with English subtitles, along with several new fictional series like ‘Oikos II’, ‘Sta Syrmata’, ‘3rd Floor’, ‘Electra’, and many more carefully selected series and programs.
As part of a diverse range of content, viewers can now access the acclaimed show ‘ERTnews 365 Moments with Sofia Papaioannou’, educational stop-motion animation the likes of ‘Gegonomeno-meso sto Mouseio’, the travel show ‘Ftasame me ton Zerom Kalouta’, and documentaries from ERT3 such as ‘Nisia stin Akri’.
Contemporary Greek cinema is also featured on ERTFLIX, offering titles like ‘Enas Horos Akomi’ by Simos Koryxenidis, ‘Ap ta Kokala Vgalmena’ by Sotiris Goritsas, ‘Anakrisi’ by Panagiotis Portokalakis, ‘Mikro Eglima’ by Ch. Georgiou, and a special tribute marking the 100th anniversary of Maria Callas’s birth.
The platform is accessible from mobiles, tablets, computers, and smart TVs.
ERTFLIX has also integrated with prominent global platforms like ROKU, with plans to expand further to Apple TV and Amazon to ensure Greeks around the world can access it 24/7, even in regions where linear television distribution would be challenging.
The ERT archive, boasting nearly 80 per cent of Greece’s audiovisual heritage, plays a pivotal role in preserving the country’s cultural legacy while aiming to centralise contemporary Greek culture for a global audience.
Feedback from international viewers is essential for the platform’s growth, and their unique perspectives help tailor the content accordingly.
Furthermore, ERTFLIX will feature Greek Diaspora creators , enabling them to showcase their work to a broader audience and the platform will highlight Greeks’ achievements globally.
Shows like ‘Stous Dromous ton Ellinon’ hosted by Maya Tsokli, and ‘Oi Ellines tou Kosmou’, hosted by Giannis Moutsios, explore the lives of Greeks in the United States and were produced entirely in America.
