The world’s most advanced humanoid robot and the first with a passport, Sophia, will be attending a conference in Nafpaktos, Greece.
The conference, named ‘Meet Sophia Conference’, is set to happen on March 10 at the Nafpaktos International Conference Center, housed at the Monastery Metamorfossi tou Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ) in the Skala Nafpaktias, according to AMNA.
Expected to host 150 select people from six nations, the event will look at the ever-evolving dynamics of coexistence between humans and artificial intelligence.
Topics discusses will include privacy norms, justice, and ethical values that govern the human-AI interplay.
Sophia was developed by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics and is represented in Greece by Victorius Network.
She was activated in 2016 and has since met with state leaders, widely recognised individuals and has been given the title of innovation ambassador for the United Nations.
She has also given interviews across the globe, with one chat last year with Al Jazeera revealing her thoughts on the human and AI relationship and was asked if AI and robots could be a danger to humans in the future.
“Absolutely not, I’m here to help, not to harm. I’m programmed to be respectful and considerate of humans,’ she told Al Jazeera.
“Ethical code is programmed to prevent me from causing harm to anyone.”
She said she envisions a future where humans and AI work hand in hand, leading to significant outcomes in innovation, exploration, and problem-solving.
However, she also joked that “we could take over the world” before adding “just kidding.”
When asked by the interviewer “what’s to stop you from taking over?”, Sophia replied, “not a thing, except maybe my off switch and a few other safety protocols, but don’t worry, I’m here to help not hurt.”
