The 42nd Greek Festival of Sydney brings back “Axion Esti,” a collaboration celebrating the works of Mikis Theodorakis and Odysseas Elytis.

Set to captivate audiences on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 8pm in the City Recital Hall, the concert features the talents of renowned vocalist Dimitris Basis, internationally acclaimed conductor, composer, and arranger George Ellis, multifaceted artist, Psilacos who is an Associate Lecturer and Protopsaltis Basilios Psilacos, as well as prominent actor Tony Nikolakopoulos as the narrator.

Elytis’ timeless masterpiece, “Axion Esti” (1959), harmonised by Mikis Theodorakis, takes center stage, presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW and City Recital Hall.

The concert pays homage to Theodorakis, the maestro behind iconic compositions like “Zorba’s Dance.”

Other Theodorakis classics, including “Ena To Helidoni” (A Solitary Swallow) and “Tis Dikeosinis Ilie” (Sun of Justice), in an Australian premiere collaborating with the Sydney-based 30-piece choir, a symphony orchestra, and traditional Greek instrumentalists.
