The adult group of the Creative Drama & Arts Centre of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) returns to the stage with a captivating and subversive comedy titled ‘Girls in the Shadow’.

Breaking away from conventional norms, ‘Girls in the Shadow’ places women at the forefront, offering a refreshing and thought-provoking exploration of female identity.

Under the direction of Jeremy Artis and with program coordination by Katerina Poutachidou, the cast brings multifaceted characters to life with depth and authenticity.

The comedy weaves together scenes from renowned works by Greek and international playwrights, creating a rich tapestry that reflects the complexities of womanhood featuring performances by Athina Giannou, Eleni Kiourtidou, Eleni Baveli, Efrosini Theodosiou, and many more.

Spanning various time periods, societies, and circumstances, the play delves into the struggles faced by women in navigating relationships, societal expectations, power dynamics, and personal desires. From the absurdity of turning a sea bass dish into a deadly weapon to the complexities of modern domestic life, the play poses intriguing questions about fidelity, intimacy, and the human condition.

Running for 80 minutes without an intermission and presented in Greek with English captioning, the play is suitable for audiences aged 15 and above.
