A television advertisement that presented North Macedonia as “historical Macedonia” has been withdrawn after causing a stir among the Greek-Australian community.

The withdrawal came following a complaint letter sent by a concerned community member, Sam Kostoulias, one of many who protested the advertisement for presenting the neighbouring state as “Macedonia”.

Kostoulias shared the response he received from TripADeal with Neos Kosmos:

“Dear Mr Kostoulias,

We appreciate customer concerns regarding our recent TV ad for the 2for1 Balkans tour.

We want to assure you that the reference to ‘Macedonia’ instead of the correct term ‘North Macedonia’ was not intentional and was immediately corrected on our website as soon as it was brought to our attention.

While the website update was quick, we understand that the process for TV ads may take a little longer.

We would like to inform you that the TV ad in question has been removed from the week of March 4, in addressing the discrepancy.

TripADeal sincerely apologises for any confusion or concern this may have caused our community.

We greatly value your feedback and assure you that we are committed to maintaining accuracy and integrity in all our communications.

Thank you for your understanding”.
