Athens has been crowned Europe’s Leading City-break Destination at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2024, held in Berlin.

The honour was accepted by Ioannis Georgizas, CEO of the Company of Development and Tourism Promotion of the Municipality of Athens (EATA).

This accolade recognises Athens’ remarkable achievement in becoming a premier city-break destination, a testament to the city’s sustainable tourism development efforts.

The “This is Athens” program, spearheaded by the Municipality of Athens over the past decade, has played a pivotal role in promoting the city and establishing it as a year-round tourist hotspot.

In 2023, Athens welcomed over 7 million international visitors, setting a new record.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote tourism, Athens is currently participating in ITB Berlin, one of Europe’s premier tourism expos.

The city has a dedicated space at the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s booth, showcasing its unique offerings to a global audience.
