During the unveiling event held at the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Greece revealed a series of updates for the upcoming Olympic Flame-lighting ceremony at Ancient Olympia. The ceremony, scheduled for next month, marks the commencement of the Olympic Torch Relay, heralding the much-awaited Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

With some significant alterations, the ceremony promises a fresh experience for spectators worldwide.

The event introduced a new High Priestess, Mary Mina, and the talented composer Dimitris Papadimitriou. Attendees were also treated to a glimpse of the revamped ceremony’s attire, featuring black-and-white robes designed for the priestesses inspired by ancient Greece and masterfully designed by Mary Katrantzou.

The audience was treated to a performance showcasing the intricate details of the attire, featuring two priestesses and a kouros.

The night also served as a tribute to the contributions of the previous High Priestess, Xanthi Georgiou, and the former composer and costume designer, Yiannis Psimadas and Eleni Kyriakou, respectively.

The event also saw the debut of the new Team Greece outfits, crafted by 4F, modeled by six male and female athletes.

President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Spyros Capralos, expressed gratitude to sponsors and supporters who have played a pivotal role in aiding over 200 athletes in their preparations for the Olympics.

The ceremony’s lineup, presented by Thanassis Vassiliadis, includes a cast comprising of personalities such as presenter Nikos Aliagas, sopranos Joyce DiDonato and Myrsini Margariti, and tenor Babis Velissarios, among others.

For the Olympic Flame-lighting ceremony is scheduled for April 16 Mary Mina will utilise the traditional curved mirror to ignite the Olympic Torch with the sun’s radiant rays.

Subsequently, the High Priestess will entrust the Olympic Flame to the first torchbearer, esteemed rowing Olympic medallist Stefanos Douskos, heralding the commencement of the 11-day relay across Greece.

On April 26, the Olympic Flame will be ceremoniously handed over to the Paris Games organizers in Athens. The Flame will then embark on its journey to France aboard the historic ship “Belem,” arriving in Marseille on May 8. The French leg of the Torch Relay will span 68 days, culminating in the grand lighting of the Olympic Flame at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Games on July 26.
