Maria Sakarri has continued her resurgence at Indian Wells, coming from a set down to defeat Emma Navarro 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals.

After losing the first set, the Greek jumped to a 4-0 lead on the way to comfortably take the second set.

In the third, Sakkari broke 22-year-old Navarro’s serve in the ninth game to serve for the match.

While the American did fight off one match point, Sakkari was able to secure the victory in the California desert after almost three hours.

“That was the toughest match I’ve played in a while,” the 28-year-old said in her post match interview.

“Emma is an incredible player. She’s a very nice girl. I got to meet her the last few days. She’s been playing amazing.

“It’s a huge win for me. I’m very happy I found a way to win this match today.”

Sakkari has now won four straight matches and is enjoying her best run since her title win last year in Guadalajara.

She is shaking off a poor end to last year and start to 2024 that saw some upset early losses.

The former World No.3 will now face off against the current No.3 Coco Gauff who dispatched Yue Yuan 6-4 6-3, in a semi-final, scheduled for Saturday 12pm AEDT.
