Greeks in Brisbane will have the chance to celebrate Greek Independence Day on March 25 in an event hosted by the Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland George Mastrocostas.

This event is welcome to all members of the community, where they will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from the Honorary Consulate-General of Greece, learn more about Greek culture, and enjoy an evening of camaraderie.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to see the Evzones Collection by Nick Bourdaniotis – a tribute to the Greek Presidential Guard the Evzones.

The photography collection has been displayed around the world, serving as a reminder of the importance of honouring and preserving Greek cultural heritage for future generations.

This year’s event is also significant as it is the first with Mastrocostas as Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland.

Mastrocostas was appointed to the role on January 5, where he has been strengthening the cultural, economic and social ties between Greece and Queensland.

Through engaging in diplomatic relations, providing support to the Greek community in Queensland, and promoting collaborations across diverse sectors including trade, culture and education.

“I am privileged to serve as the Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland, and facilitate such gatherings that invites the community to come together and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and enduring spirit of Greece,” Mastrocostas said in a media release sent to Neos Kosmos.

“This event symbolises the strength of international ties and the importance of diplomacy in our ever-changing world.”

Mastrocostas also serves as a Board Director for the Hellenic Initiative Australia and is head of private development and construction company Aniko Group.
