Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thanasi Kokkinakis have got their doubles campaign at the Miami Open off to a roaring start, defeating Alex de Minaur and Rinky Hijikata 6-4, 6-3.

The top ranked Greek and Greek Australian cruised to convincing win over the Aussie duo in just over an hour on court.

Neither of their serves were threatened throughout the match, scoring five aces and winning 31/35 of first serve points.

Tsitsipas and Kokkinakis broke early in the first set to get to a 4-1 lead, while in the second they led with a break at 4-3.

They had three chances in the ninth game to end the match with a double break, but finally did so in the tenth game with a Tsitsipas serve.

At one point the ‘Greek and Australian dream team’ won 11 points in a row, a sign of their dominance on the day.

This was their first ever doubles match, despite being good friends.

Earlier this year, the two were spotted alongside Greek Aussie fan favourite Nick Kyrgios on a night out in Melbourne during the Australian Open.

While this is their debut together, both are no stranger to doubles action.

Tsitsipas regularly teams with his brother Petro, with the two winning the 250.

The 25-year-old also doubled up with Feliciano Lopez in Acapulco to win the 500 while reaching the final of the Miami Open with Wesley Koolhof in 2019.

Kokkinakis has done one better, winning the Australian Open doubles with Kyrgios in 2022.

The two will next face third seed duo Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram on Sunday (AEDT).

As for singles action in Miami, Tsitsipas will play his first match early Saturday morning (AEDT) against Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

Meanwhile Kokkinakis lost his qualifier to Frenchman Hugo Grenier earlier this week due to walkover.

On the women’s side, Maria Sakkari has won her opening match against Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-2 and will play Dayana Yatremska on Monday.
