The largest cultural festival in Queensland is set to return to South Brisbane’s Musgrave Park in a two-day Greek spectacle this coming May.

The huge event, which will also take place at the Greek Club, will be held on Saturday May 18 (12-10pm) and Sunday May 19 (10am-7pm).

The annual not-for-profit event, which has been running since 1976, will feature a series of market stalls, food stalls representing 11 different Greek regions, to be run by the Greek community (all funds will be distributed back via the Brisbane Greek Orthodox Community of St George.

The festival comes with an extensive list of entertainment, along with cooking lessons, competitions, wine tastings and more spread across the two days.

Kos Kastrissios, co-Chairman of the volunteer organising committee, said they were looking forward to carrying on the staple of the state’s cultural calendar which also raises funds for community groups and charities.

“As always, we’re looking to add new elements and experiences while bringing back Paniyiri festival favourites to give patrons a little taste of Greece – the best weekend of Greek food, dancing and fun,” Mr Kastrissios said.

“Paniyiri Greek Festival unites us in joy and celebration and shines a positive light on our culture and community. I can promise that everyone who attends the festival will leave with their hearts as full as their stomachs!”

The co-Chairman added that “everyone involved is incredibly proud that the Paniyiri Greek Festival brings so much joy to the thousands of people who come to dine and dance and party in the park”.

The event, which now attracts over 50,000 people every year, promises to continue to showcase the Greek culture and traditions to the whole state.
