The Greek Orthodox Parishes and the Greek Welfare Centre Victoria are combining their forces to collect food donations to deliver in hampers for Greek-Australian households in financial need this Easter.

The initiative is part of the Greek Welfare Centre Victoria of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia’s efforts in organising and co-ordinating Food Hampers Appeals for Christmas and Easter.

The Greek Welfare Centre, in tandem with the Parish Network of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Australian Community of Victoria, will collect the donated items to give out to the families in need.

The drive is targeting the collection of non-perishable items such as: oil, pasta, rice, coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits, canned food (including vegetables, meats, hams etc), sauces, flour, spices, snacks etc.

The Greek Welfare Centre is encouraging all members of our community to drop off donated items at the Greek Orthodox Churches (cut-off date of April 28th) and/or at Greek Welfare Centre (cut-off date May 2nd) at the Holy Monastery of ‘Axion Estin’ at 7 Hartington Street, Northcote.

The recommended times for dropping off items are between 9 a.m-5 p.m except for public holidays, with everyone asked to assess the use-by dates and structural integrity of their donations before donating them at the collection points.

The Greek Welfare Centre is particularly encouraging any Greek Australian businesses to give as generously as possible to increase the amount of food they can distribute to the families in Melbourne’s Metropolitan area.
